Another California Story

A jury trial in California has resulted in a judgement against Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in the amount of $103 million, comprised of $83 million in punitive damages, $15 million for “past non-economic losses,” and $5 million for “future non-economic losses.” The jury found that the company had discriminated against and harassed the woman because of her age, had subjected her to a hostile work environment, and had terminated her after she had taken STD leave for high blood pressure caused by that hostile work environment. This treatment came after she had worked for the company for 31 years.
