Additional Leave Can Reduce Turnover
A study conducted by Cleveland State University and Florida Atlantic University has found that additional leave can reduce turnover. Specifically, based upon a study of 18 years of data, their study found the following:
Giving workers 6 to 10 days of PTO, not just 1 to 5 days of PTO, significantly reduced resignations — especially for men, a joint study by researchers from FAU and CSU suggested.
The gold standard, it seems, is 11 or more days of PTO. At that rate, both men and women were less likely to quit, research showed.
With competition for talent heating up, this might be an additional tool in the kit for a company’s recruiters.
It may be advisable for at least some employers to do a cost-benefit analysis to compare replacement costs vs. the cost of increasing PTO for employees.
