New York Requiring Notice if AI Determines Layoffs

New York has become the first state to require companies to disclose whether their decision to lay off workers has been made using Artificial Intelligence. This adjustment to their “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) system was implemented in March. It simply adds a checkbox to their standard notification form denoting whether "technological innovation or automation" is a reason for job cuts. At present, it is for statistical analysis only, but no doubt this will become more widespread.
