Room for Improvement in Communicating Employee Benefits

Employers Misjudge: A study by Aflac indicates that 75% of employers believe their employees are satisfied with their benefits, while only 65% of employees agree.

Humans Win Out: The Aflac study found that 37% of GenZ and Millennial employees prefer to talk to a human, vs. an AI assistant, but only 28% of employers offer that option, helping to produce the result above. Similar comparisons exist in employees’ desire for one-on-one benefits discussions, but again, 28% of employers offer that service.

Financial Disconnect: 78% of employers think employees can handle medical bills, but 44% of workers state that they could not cover an unexpected $1000 healthcare charge. For 19% of workers, that threshold dropped to $500 in unexpected costs.

Obviously, better communication is needed, and the burden falls on employers: more frequency, more accessibility to resources. Over 75% of employees plan to pay more attention to their benefits; employers should as well.
