Five Characteristics of Top Performers

Regardless of role, top performers have been found through studies to have the following five characteristics in common:

  1. Belief in their ability to make a difference and willingness to apply themselves to make it happen.

  2. Active thinking: seeking to learn, improve, and then implement or adapt to new knowledge

  3. Proactive approach: identifying new problems or opportunities and taking initiative to work out solutions or implementations

  4. Not bound by ego: willing to admit personal areas needing development and seeking assistance in that development

  5. Personal commitment to quality: maintaining high standards for personal performance and output – whether or not anyone else is watching.
