In the State of the Union, President Trump announced that a federal matching program would be started next year for employees whose employers do not provide retirement benefits. Modeled after a federal matching plan, the matching benefit would be up to $1000 annually. According to the White House, over 44% (40.6 million) of full-time U.S. workers do not participate in a retirement plan, and nearly 51% (48.8 million) have no employer match.
