State Law Updates

Montana and Connecticut have strengthened their consumer privacy laws, particularly where minors and their data are concerned. The requirements have been broadened and the exceptions reduced.

Massachusetts, Montana and Cleveland, Ohio, are all enacting pay transparency laws or enhancements to existing laws in October. Massachusetts posting requirements had to be met by October 29.

California will be changing its laws requiring employers to submit pay data and increasing the penalties for non-compliance. The changes are significant enough that they will be implemented over a two-year period, with the most “cumbersome” change starting in 2027.
