Necessity for Middle Managers
Tech giants Amazon, Meta and Google have been cutting jobs in the middle layer of management. A number of smaller companies have also done so to streamline their organizations. These cuts, while reducing payroll, have not necessarily been positive: among other things, internal communications have suffered and employees have fewer information sources available. Companies are finding that "Middle managers are leaders who translate strategy into action, provide mentorship, and foster alignment and engagement within teams.” The outcome turns out to be that removing them for the sake of streamlining creates more confusion than productivity.
