AI Industry Recruiting Platform Faces Multiple Lawsuits over Data Breach

Mercor, a California company that recruits for AI professionals, suffered a data breach in which personal data of several consultants was exfiltrated. Currently, four cases have been filed in the US District Court for Northern California, each by an independent contractor who uses the Mercor platform to obtain work with other companies as an expert to train their own AI platforms. Because their personal information was exposed, the consultants are suing Mercor for failing to train its own employees in proper security practices and procedures. They allege damages including negligence, unjust enrichment, breach of implied contract, breach of privacy and violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law, which prohibits unlawful, unfair or fraudulent business practices.
